October 26 - Love Letter: To Spooky Season in Warwick 👻🎃🐈⬛
Dear Warwick,
We don't want to alarm you, but we think you might have been preparing for Halloween for several hundred years.
The medieval castle. The cobbled streets. The centuries-old buildings. The little alleyways that suddenly feel considerably less inviting once the sun goes down.
Frankly, you've been dressing for the occasion long before the rest of us discovered pumpkin decorations. And we’re excited to hear that this October, you're really leaning into it.
With haunted castles, ghostly tales, pumpkin trails, candlelit tours and plenty of sweet treats, Warwick might just be one of the best places to spend Halloween in the Midlands.
Whether you're planning a family day out over October half-term or a properly spooky weekend away, there's more than enough happening to keep everyone entertained. Even the ghosts, presumably...

A castle with a darker side
Of course, if there's one place that knows how to do Halloween properly, it's Warwick Castle.
From 24 October to 1 November, The Haunted Castle returns, transforming one of Warwick's most famous attractions into a world of spooky entertainment, eerie encounters and Halloween fun for the whole family. It's the kind of place where history and Halloween feel like a particularly good match.
And for those who prefer their scares after sunset, there's Castle After Dark (24, 29, 30 and 31 October), bringing an altogether more atmospheric experience to the castle grounds. Because wandering around a medieval castle is one thing. Wandering around one in the dark is quite another.
Follow the ghosts (and the pumpkins)
But Warwick's Halloween adventures don't stop at the castle gates.
Over at Market Hall Museum, families can take on the free Potion Quest Trail (25 October – 1 November), turning a visit to the museum into a little Halloween mission. And if there's one thing we've learned about children, it's that adding the word 'quest' to almost any activity makes it approximately ten times more exciting.
Meanwhile, Hill Close Gardens is inviting visitors to explore its historic gardens with a Ghost Trail Around the Garden (26 October, 3.30–5.30pm).
At The Lord Leycester, things are getting suitably atmospheric with Spooky Tours by Candlelight (selected evenings, 17–30 October), alongside a Pumpkin Carving Competition during the final week of October.
And for anyone who likes their Halloween with a generous helping of local history, Warwick's evening ghost walking tours offer a chance to discover the darker stories behind some of the town's most famous landmarks.
After all, with this much history, it would be a little surprising if Warwick didn't have a few ghost stories to tell.

When the town gets spooky
As Halloween itself approaches, Warwick's town centre has even more reasons to visit...
There's a free Pumpkin Giveaway in Market Place (27 October, 12–4pm), while St John's House is getting into the spirit with An Evening of Ghost Stories (28 and 29 October, 7pm). And for families who enjoy a little fright with their fun, St John's Haunted House (29–31 October, 10am–5pm) promises a suitably spooky experience, with activities for younger visitors too.
Then comes one of the highlights of the Halloween calendar: the Trick or Treat Twilight Market in Market Place (30 October, 3–8pm). Because there's something rather lovely about seeing Warwick's historic streets filled with people enjoying the town after dark.
Costumes, treats, market stalls and that unmistakable excitement that comes with a night out when you're allowed to dress as a witch, vampire or slightly questionable homemade ghost. It's a brilliant excuse to make an evening of it.
Arrive early, explore the shops, grab something to eat at one of Warwick's independent restaurants or pubs, and enjoy the town at its most atmospheric.
A little magic on the high street
Not every Halloween adventure needs to involve someone jumping out at you in the dark. Sometimes a little mystery is enough.
Which is where BeHoptymistic comes in. If you're feeling curious about crystals, looking for something a little magical or fancy trying your hand at a tarot card reading this Halloween, it's a lovely place to explore.
Whether you leave with a new crystal, a thoughtful gift or simply a little more curiosity about what the universe has in store, it's a rather fitting stop for the season.
And then, of course, there's the important business of Halloween sweets. Because no spooky day out is complete without them. Mary's Sweet Emporium is the perfect place to stock up on all your favourite treats, whether you're preparing for trick-or-treaters, putting together a Halloween movie-night stash or simply rewarding yourself for surviving the haunted house.
We won't judge how many make it home.

A weekend worth getting dressed up for
And perhaps that's what makes Halloween in Warwick so special. You don't have to build your entire visit around one attraction. You can spend the morning exploring a castle, the afternoon following a pumpkin trail, stop for something sweet, wander through historic streets and finish the day with a ghost story or an evening market.
For families, it's a half-term adventure with plenty to discover.
For couples and groups of friends, it's an excuse for a wonderfully atmospheric autumn weekend.
And for locals, it's a reminder that sometimes the best seasonal adventures are right on our doorstep.
So here's to you, Warwick. For the history that gives us goosebumps. For the shops that add a little magic. And for proving that when it comes to Halloween, you really don't need to pretend to be somewhere spooky. You've had the atmosphere all along.
With love,
Warwick Chamber of Trade 💙💙💙
P.S. If you happen to see a ghost wandering down Castle Street, do let us know. We'd love to hear whether they're local.
